Thee axe hath fallen

Well, on Wednesday I rode to work and was a few hours from being done when I was called into the HR office and told the company's goals could no longer benefit from my contributions and that this was my last day at work. They so kindly (not) escorted me to my cave to get my stuff and I left.
I believe this may be a blessing in disguise, as I have not been remotely happy there for a long time. We just need to weather this storm till I find something else. I have some side work lined up for a few weeks and am hoping unemployment will not be a big deal (first timer there). We figure Spring/Summer is not the worst time to be looking/unemployed since we will have the garden to feed us along with farmer's market stuff. Heidi has yoga and is looking for more work as am I.

With all the time on my hands, I started the new coop which is on the north side of our property and gets more winter sun. Here are some pics of the work so far.
After building the frame looking North:

After the floor joists are in

Looking West with the South wall. We are using some reclaimed bathroom frosted windows on the South side.
Looking South
More pictures to follow, but basically at the end of the day today we have the S, W, and E walls up. Tomorrow is the North wall and the rafters.

I don't have time to comment much now, will try to email. Sorry (?) to hear this. Things will work out! I hope it ends up to be the blessing you wish for.

Hey - I saw the news on MBL, too and just put two and two together on this to figure out that was your post. I hope this is all for the best - nothing worse than going to a job that does not make you happy. Good luck with the coop and good luck finding something that works better and is more rewarding for you.

Anything in particular you are looking for? I can keep my ears open.

Nickel,
I work in the software industry, but at this point I am considering a career change to maybe a farmer :)

In honesty, I am still looking into SW, but would consider most things semi-professional i.e. not HD, Menards or the like
Thanks,
Devin

It's probably not what you are looking for but it caught my eye because of the benefits package:

I didn't know if you were looking to sell stuff at the farmer's market but some people have created mini-CSAs (up to 6 shares) that seem to work well:

I'm sorry to hear you've been another victim of the careless, greedy tactics of the Feds,I've been unemployed since August 2008, but I think it's great. (for now) Your chicken coop looks great! When my garden-making settles down, we hope to make room for some chickens too.

Sorry to hear the news, er I mean congrats on getting out of there, er I mean good luck er, whatever I guess. I'm currently calling myself 'retired' which is much less stressful than unemployed and they way things are going it may be the only retirement I get! I am looking forward to my next bout of employment but making the best of things in the mean time.

Best of luck!
